Mac is the crankiest, rudest, most foul mouthed SOB you'll ever meet. A lifer in the U.S. Marine Corps, Mac is an expert at turning no good punks into men and men into killing machines. A veteran of five wars going back to Vietnam, Mac is exactly what todays Corps needs. Unfortunately for Mac, he isn't what they want. Not Anymore.

Back from Iraq and stationed in Florida, Mac aches to get back into battle. But when he ends up cold cocking his superior officer after putting down one too many, Mac has no choice but to make a hasty retreat. Sure, the guy was just another pencil pushing, sniveling, "don't ask don"t tell" bureaucrat who never saw a day of combat, that doesn't mean Mac won't end up spending six months in the brig for assault and get his ass dishonorably discharged. Mac's buddies convince him to go on the run until they figure out a way to smooth things over.

Mac drunkenly takes off into the night. A hundred miles later, the car runs out of gas in Liberty City. Unable to restart the engine and never owned a cell phone (the mere thought disgusts him), Mac is forced to do something he abhors; ask for help.

Mac goes to the nearest house to borrow a phone. When he knocks, seven year old twins Daniel and Erica Cutter answer the door. They stare in silent wonder at Mac, until Daniel loudly announces that there's a "white soldier" on the doorstep. Moments later, 16 year old Dayton appears. Mac "orders" Dayton to let him in, telling him he can't disoobey a command from a military officer. But before Mac can make the call, his uncanny ability to piss people off kicks in. He tells the kids they should hurry up and join the Corps before they turn into little gang bangers and crack addicts they are destined to become. Unfortunately for Mac, this is when the kids' mom, Ruth Cutter (Halle Berry) comes home.

Ruth a single mother with a high school education, a dedicated parent who has given everything so her children will have a brighter future. Ruth is also a proud African American woman who does not take any lip from anyone, especially some white, foul mouthed cracker spewing racist bile in her own living room.

Now, one of Americas most hard core soldiers has finally met his match in Ruth Cutter. And in a crazy twist of fate, Mac actually gets himself kidnapped by this "harmless" black family. What ensues is the greatest battle Mac will ever face in his life, the battle for his heart.
